The Fish Hotel, Farncombe, Broadway, Worcestershire WR12 7LHWebsite
Boaty McBoatface, an adults-only hut on the hillside above Broadway, comes with a lake of its own and a boat to paddle out to its island.
A hotel called The Fish, a long way from the sea, has named its restaurant Hook and its children's menu Tiddler's, and the kitchen has taken the hint: Hook, under Martin Burge, is a seafood restaurant. The main house is honey-coloured stone, with an arched doorway onto a gravel forecourt and a big open fire in the stone-walled lounge. The rooms are spread across the Farncombe Estate's hillside above Broadway; ask for the view side, which looks out over the Vale of Evesham. The huts and treehouses are further into the trees. One cabin curves like a barrel on its side, shingles running up into a roof of grass, its deck built out round the trunk of a great tree. Boaty McBoatface, the hut with most to live up to, has been given a lake, with an island in it and a boat to get there.
Recommended for couples who want a hot tub of their own in a hut children are not allowed into, and for families who would like to sleep up a tree. Every hut has its tub for two on a private terrace. The treehouses have a double bed and bunks for two children under twelve, with underfloor heating against a Cotswold winter. Down on the ground there is a woodland playground, and the estate lays on falconry and axe-throwing. The hotel lends wellies and walking maps: Broadway Tower is a short walk, and the village about two miles down the hill. Each treehouse has a double copper bath out on its deck, with an intercom beside it for room service, and at two of them somebody else has to carry the order across a rope bridge.
