A stone farmhouse with ten hectares of its own vines in the farmland at the heart of Mallorca, and a pool under the palms that looks out over the fields.
The sea is a drive from Finca Serena in every direction. The hotel stands in Es Pla, the farmed plain in the middle of Mallorca, on forty-odd hectares of olive groves and cypress, lavender and vines, and the vines alone cover ten. The farmhouse is a long run of honey-coloured stone and grey shutters, with a vine trained along its front, and in 2019 the Mallorcan architect Sergi Bastidas made the estate a hotel of 25 rooms, white-walled and hung with linen, some opening through black steel-framed glass doors onto cobbled terraces. Below the house the pool lies among palms and taupe umbrellas, looking over a patchwork of green fields to a flat-topped hill, which is as near to a sea view as the plain gets.
Recommended for couples who would rather have Mallorca's countryside than its beaches: nobody under fourteen stays, and every room sleeps two. Yoga is at sunrise in the open air, and more than eight kilometres of private trails run through the vines and the lavender fields, for walking or running. The vineyard grows native varieties for three wines, poured at tastings, and one suite is named after Premsal Blanc, the white grape that grows almost nowhere but Mallorca. Breakfast brings a still-warm ensaimada from Can Salem, the bakery in Algaida, seven kilometres away, and at Jacaranda the tasting menus are drawn from the kitchen garden, with the estate's own olive oil. Guests praise the size of the rooms and their private terraces and gardens; the spa adds a heated indoor pool and a sauna. For the coast, the hotel arranges a boat, a De Antonio Yachts D28 Open, to corners reached only from the sea, and from Montuïri the first leg of the voyage is by land.
