Cabins on stilts over an untreated natural pool in the umbrella pines outside Comporta, with a ladder from each deck straight down into the water.
Sublime Comporta began in 2014 as gabled cabins scattered through the umbrella pines at Muda, between Comporta and Carvalhal. José Alberto Charrua clad them in timber and filled the gable ends with glass, so the pines stay in view from the bed, and here and there one comes straight up through a deck. That first half is now called Terracotta, and the rooms to ask for there are the Bio-Pool Suites: wooden cabins on stilts in a row along one long natural pool, untreated and sectioned off, with reeds at its edge and a ladder from each terrace down into the water, which puts the morning swim at the bedroom door. In May 2026 the estate crossed the road to Sand, by Fragmentos de Arquitectura with Charrua again, where Terracotta's whites and blues give way to taupe and soft gold.
Recommended for couples, who have Terracotta's adults-only spa and Food Circle, a tasting menu served at twelve seats, and for families, who have Sand. There the kids' club takes children from three, for a fee, with a splash pool and an upstairs den of table football for the older ones, and the Aqua complex has a shallow pool for toddlers, with pizza at Davvero BLU beside it. Beefbar, Riccardo Giraudi's Monaco steakhouse chain, opened its first Portuguese outpost here, with breakfast à la carte and a DJ after dark. The sea is ten minutes' drive, or a shuttle, to the hotel's own beach club on Praia do Carvalhal, where a wooden walkway takes the last stretch over the dunes; the slower way there is on horseback, across the rice fields. About twenty-five minutes away by car, the pier at Carrasqueira stands on stilts as well, for fishing boats rather than loungers.
