Agios Ioannis Peristeron, Corfu 49084, GreeceWebsite

An early-twentieth-century Corfiot village built in 2018 from details of Corfu's Old Town, with a pebbled beach of its own at the foot of the hill.

The arches at Nido are Venetian, the balcony railings are French, and all of it went up in 2018. M-Agiostratis, who designed it, took the details from Corfu's Old Town, 17 kilometres away, and made an early-twentieth-century village of them on a rocky hillside above the Ionian, down to Venetian lime paint on the walls. The suites are spread through small buildings in peach and terracotta, with courtyards and arched alleys between them, laid out so that none stands in front of another's sea. Some have a pool of their own and others a hot tub, and in one a free-standing bath waits behind an arch, looking past the bed to the water. Below the long stone wall of the infinity pool, the hill drops through olives and cypresses to the hotel's pebbled beach, where the white umbrellas stand in rows.

Recommended for grown-ups who want Corfu in high summer without the din: nobody under sixteen stays, and guests find it quiet even in peak season. For exertion there is meditation, or aerial yoga for the less earthbound, and a kayak or a paddleboard off the beach. Recovery is breakfast at San Giovanni, over the sea, and lunch at Aquavit, the pool bar. The hotel's yacht runs along the coast from the beach, and a private boat skips the half-hour road into Corfu Town. Apaggio, the fine-dining room, gives Greek-Corfiot cooking a contemporary turn. Twice a week Greek coffee and sweets are set out free at the Kafeneio, in the chapel courtyard: every village needs a coffee shop, even one finished in 2018.

A free-standing bathtub and vanity in the foreground, seen through a stone archway into a bedroom with a bed facing a glass door and sea view.
An aerial view of a shingle beach with rows of white umbrellas and two sunbathers lying on towels at the water's edge.
Red wine is poured into a glass on a table set with white wine, rosé and small plates of food, a blurred sea view behind.
A woman in a white shirt, out of focus in the foreground, looking out over the sea toward a line of distant mountains.
A woman in a patterned shirt stands by an infinity pool looking out to sea, past a low table of snacks and another woman reclining on a lounger, an orange archway and wall of the hotel to the right.
A terrace with rows of lavender and an olive tree above a stone wall, two people walking past in motion blur, with umbrella-shaded tables and the sea beyond.
