Dark-gabled villas in the forest above Hout Bay, where the plunge pool is filled with spring water off Table Mountain.
The Deluxe Mountain Suite at Future Found Sanctuary has a eucalyptus forest on the wallpaper and the Hout Bay valley in the window, so the view comes twice, once painted. The estate opened in 2023 on Table Mountain's southern slopes, inside the national park, and its villas look like houses a child might draw: steep gables in dark metal, their glazed ends lit at dusk against the forest. Inside, timber slats line a vaulted ceiling over bare concrete, and glass doors slide back to the pool. Three of the pools are heated. The fourth, the plunge, takes spring water off the mountain and keeps it at 10 to 12°C, which is Table Mountain's idea of a swim.
Recommended for couples who would rather see Table Mountain from a forest than a street, and for families: children under twelve stay with their parents in Maison Noir's two master suites, and babysitting can be arranged. The suites are large, and their wallpaper is hand-painted. The Sensorium Spa's programme is kept for staying guests: guided hikes leave from the property, and the private cinema is free if booked ahead. Executive Chef Malika van Reenen changes the menu daily with whatever the five gardens produce, and the honey is the estate's own. For seafood and the boats to Seal Island, Hout Bay Harbour is 6.1 km by road. There is no bar. Cocktails are mixed to order, and every room has its own gin and tonic station, so last orders are whenever the guest decides.
